Nice post, thanks for the heads up - time to bring out some vinyl. One doesn't have to be into Christmas to 'smile, smile, smile' when you hear his incredible version of 'santa claus is coming to town' - or, in his wonderful style, 'san he claws is conhrmmhh to tawrrrn'. One of the most unbelievable recordings ever made!!! The story goes that he was in a cab on his way to a gig in Boston and he heard this secular holiday song for the first time on the car radio on the way over. That night, he played this jaw-dropping, otherworldly version of that song he had only heard once, just a few hours earlier, for his encore. When asked about his unique take on that piece, he told the folks he liked the tune a lot, but didn't understand the words too well - here's a snippet of that performance . . .

I love this man and his wonderful playing . . . the vocals are just a bonus. You gotta love a guy who titles one of his albums 'happy all the time'.
